We may oftentimes forget that our human body, mind, and spirit are the only real gifts we really have to experience (the best of) life. But, losing connection with ourselves can take us further away from truly realizing and feeling the freedom and love that we were meant to witness in our lives.
Today, most of this disconnection with our deeper selves can be attributed to all the excessive stress that inevitably comes with our busy schedules. Some of the sources of stress in our lives can be the pressures of our work life, dealing with various people on a daily basis, managing future goals, and more.
Although this might seem normal for a while, over time, the increasing stress can be detrimental to our overall health, well-being, and quality of life.
And, this is exactly where and why “Letting Go” comes into the picture.
In the context of improving the relationship you have with yourself and others, letting go literally means letting go of the things that are holding you back enough to not let you heal and grow.
The Importance of Letting Go
What is the use of your (troubled) past if it doesn’t help you become a stronger, more understanding, and more appreciative being? But you can only become the best version of yourself if you can filter out the hurt and pain from the lessons that are essential to your growth and prosperity. Basically, you need to understand and accept that your life is good but can be a lot better if you can learn to let go of the things that are holding you back.
Thus, the main importance of letting go is actually finally deciding that no matter where you are or what you’ve been through in life, you’re now ready to move on and become the best version of yourself. However, one should also understand that truly letting go is a process and doesn’t happen overnight—even though the decision to do so can happen in an instance. Like most of the best things that are free to experience, you need to put in some work to achieve it.
Here’s How You Can Begin Letting Go
In no particular order, here are 6 sure ways of letting go of what’s holding you back.
1) Better Awareness of your Emotions
Your emotions play a big part in reminding you about your feelings about any events, people, or things. Too many people are often disconnected from their emotions and may not know their true feelings in certain situations. But, learning to realize and understand the true nature of your emotions will give you better control and power over letting them take over you. You can practice this by safely visiting certain troubling events in your life to gauge your deeper emotions about them.
2) More Mindfulness
Being more mindful is not only about learning to control or focus your conscious mind. It also has a lot to do with your subconscious mind. To truly be more mindful, you need to gauge how your thoughts and feelings mix and react with your subconscious mind too. Once you’re more aware of your thoughts and their impact, you will also be able to find ways of maintaining and getting the healthy exchange(s) to serve you in the best possible way.
3) Better & Healthier (Daily) Productivity
Oftentimes, our laziness and unwillingness to get up and properly change our lives are what hold us back from moving on to the next levels. To be blunt, without creating healthy daily habits and routines or just having a healthy daily life, no individual can truly move on from their unhealthier past patterns of life. Thus, we need to focus on healthy activities, tasks, work, and more to wholly let go. Better daily productivity naturally increases our satisfaction levels while also improving our outlook towards life.
4) Learn to Forgive & Then Forget
As human beings, we are bound to feel sensitive about certain events and people that have wronged us. Why? Because we’re filled with various emotions and thoughts. However, in the early learning years of our lives, and because of society's collective thinking and pressures, most of us did not know how important our emotions are or how much they can impact our lives. Thus, to truly become more of deep love again, we also need to learn to forgive and forget to move on.
5) Learn to Live in the Now
Living with one foot in your past and the other foot in the future often causes problems in your present life. This is because we as humans were designed to focus and absorb the best out of only one thing at a time. It’s alright to think of the past or future at times but when you do, make sure to focus and reach your conclusions without wasting too much energy on them. Why? Because the only reality you should be focusing on – and the only one that really counts – is the present.
6) Realize Who You Really Are & Learn to Accept It
Every journey you will ever take in your life actually first begins with accepting who you really are. Whether you’re good or bad at something doesn’t matter as much as the thoughts and feelings you have about yourself when doing a particular deed or task. When you truly begin accepting yourself, no matter who you are or what you’ve been through, you take off the extra load from your being. And, without the load, you invariably open yourself up to newer and better possibilities.
The Bottom Line
The best part of our dynamic and ever-evolving life on earth is that we truly have the propensity to begin afresh once again. All we need to do is bring some more attention and focus on the things that need some fixing or repairing in our lives. Doing so will not only help us rectify our (inner and outer) problems but will also gear us up to enjoy better life experiences. So, do not waste too much energy and time in starting new ventures before resolving the things that continue to keep you clogged up.
